Co-Designing
The Co-designing phase was all about embracing collective creativity within the group members and the participant. The group implemented a "guiding" role in the ideation and in the validation during this project phase to help the participant get adopted into creativity and co-design together with the group a product/service specific to the needs of the participant.
Two co-design sessions
Two co-design sessions were done with Lisa. The first co-design session was used to get to know the activities of the participant through storyboarding, also to identify challenges and to present preliminary ideation to spark initial ideas. The second co-design session was used for validation of the proposed concepts that were made based of the decisions and clustering made after the first co-design session.
General Findings
Main Design Challenge
The main design challenge was firstly formulated based on the results from the Research which was generalized to people having chronic fatigue and wanting to do outdoor activities. This first formulation was considered too general since it didn't address the specifics of our case.
The design challenge was reformulated together with the participant following the first co-design session to make the challenge more oriented towards her specifically.
“To design a sustainable low-technology product meant for outdoor activities for independent users who experience fatigue.”
"Making gardening more energy-efficient by reducing the energy required to bring tools along."
Ideation
Preliminary ideation was done during and after the first co-design session and was first based on the activities which the case owner likes to do. Since Lisa did not see many opportunities in this project at first, these sketches helped open up her mind. With her input, the ideation was later reorganized and clustered into more specific directions/challenges which the case owner described as more interesting to her specific situation.
Concepts
After clustering interesting ideas together with the case owner, concepts were generated. Further information about generating the concepts, discussing them and choosing a concept can be found in Co-Design Session 2.
